— The —FADED STANDARD

Leo · Metal · Pig The early version of you — the one people first met — is still the version they're measuring you against. You haven't decided whether that's a pressure or a description.

Leo · Jul 23 — Aug 22Metal Pig
I.Overview

Leo and Pig together make an extraordinary first impression. The Leo's warmth and theatrical presence, the Pig's charisma and photographic intelligence — in the first weeks of anything, you're one of the more compelling people in any room. The Metal underneath gives this a principled dimension: the performance isn't empty, there are actual standards holding it up.

The problem the Pig introduces is the same problem it introduces in every combination: at some point the initial fire burns through the interesting part, and what remains is the unglamorous work. The Leo and Metal both care about that work — Leo because it deserves recognition, Metal because it's the correct thing to do. But the Pig is already at the door.

In a friend group, you're the one people believe in without quite knowing why they still do. The track record is complicated. The potential is not.

II.Personality

The Leo in you commands attention through presence rather than effort — you're warm, expansive, generous, and when the subject is something you care about, you're one of the most engaging people your friends know. The Metal ensures there's substance underneath: principles, a genuine commitment to what's right. When these are aligned and the Pig is still in the room, you're exceptional.

The Pig's photographic memory for what it's interested in produces real depth in the right domains. You know more than most people about the things you care about, and the Leo-Metal combination lets you articulate it and argue for it with conviction. The problem is the list of things the Pig has stopped being interested in — and the incomplete projects, relationships, and commitments that live on that list.

The shadow: Metal holds the record of everything left unfinished. Leo carries the shame of not matching the image. The Pig, which handles failure by exiting early and moving on, is the part of you that keeps leaving the other two behind. The calm self-interest the Pig is capable of — rational, undramatic withdrawal — is the thing the Leo-Metal combination finds most difficult to accept about itself. That was me. I did that. I left.

The Metal's specific fear is its most acute here: the person who knew you at your most capable — the early, brilliant version — has been adjusting their expectations downward, slowly, one undelivered thing at a time. They still care about you. They're just no longer surprised when you don't finish.

III.Love

You fall like the Leo — completely, loudly, with full theatrical commitment. The Pig adds genuine generosity and warmth. The Metal makes it feel principled and real. Early in a relationship, you're one of the most compelling partners your person has ever had.

The Pig's inability to fight for things is the warning sign in love. When the relationship hits real friction — the kind that requires deliberate effort over time — the Pig's instinct is to drift rather than confront. Not leave, necessarily. Just drift. And the Leo, who needs things to feel alive, and the Metal, who needs things to be maintained correctly, watch the drift happen and struggle to stop it.

What breaks it: the moment your partner realizes they're the only one fighting for the relationship, and stops — not out of spite, but out of exhaustion.

The scene: You had a plan — for the relationship, for something you were building together. When you made it, you meant it. Now it's later, and the plan is still there, in a half-finished conversation from several months ago, and you haven't quite abandoned it but the momentum has gone somewhere else. Your partner brings it up once, gently. You say the right things. You mean them when you say them. The Pig has already moved on; the Cancer holds the door; the Metal keeps the appointment. You're still technically in the room. Everyone can feel the distance between technically and actually.

The person you were when you made the promise isn't gone. You just haven't figured out how to bring them back when you need them.
