The plan was excellent. Somewhere around the third month, something shifted.
Capricorn is the long game. Wood is principled and demanding. Pig is a "three-minute fire" — initially brilliant, genuinely impressive in the early going, and progressively harder to sustain. Two layers of this chart are built for accumulation; one is fundamentally a sprinter in marathon gear. The result is someone whose early performance in any context is genuinely exceptional — they impress quickly, think clearly, generate real ideas — and who has a complicated relationship with the long middle stretch. Not the beginning, not the end. The middle, where the Capricorn grind is required and the Pig's initial charge has already dissipated. They've been here before. They have strategies for it. The strategies work about sixty percent of the time.
Capricorn and Wood together produce a specific form of intelligence: structured, value-driven, oriented toward building something worth building. They're not impressionable — they know what good work looks like and they know what they want to produce. The standards are real.
Pig gives them a photographic memory for what interests them. When something catches their attention, they absorb it completely — details, patterns, implications — and can recall it with a precision that makes first impressions consistently strong. They're genuinely knowledgeable about the things they care about, and they care about a range of things that surprises people.
What Pig also brings is the inability to fight for things. When friction arrives — real friction, sustained friction, the kind that requires showing up for the difficult fourth month — there's a natural tendency to go flat. Not dramatically. Just incrementally, almost imperceptibly, less present.
Now the part you don't post about.
They hate being managed. Capricorn and Wood both resist external authority; Pig simply disengages from it. The combination functions best with high autonomy, which means they often choose exactly those contexts where there's no external structure to compensate for the attrition problem. They need to be honest with themselves about this and usually aren't quite.
Wood's fear of stagnation is acute here, precisely because Pig's pattern of exciting starts and incomplete middles can feel, from the inside, like exactly the kind of arrested development they most dread. They've done enough impressive things to know they're capable. They've also left enough incomplete things to know that capability and follow-through are different muscles entirely.
The specific thing they'd rather not examine: the gap between who they could be if they sustained the intensity of their best weeks, and who they actually are across the full arc of any given year.
They fall decisively and with real generosity. Pig is freedom-loving but, when in, is warm — present, attentive, genuinely interested in the other person's world. Capricorn makes them consistent in the early period; Wood makes them careful about who they choose.
The early phase of a relationship with this person is exceptional — attentive, curious, generously present. The question is what happens when the relationship requires sustained work rather than the bright intensity of its beginning.
They don't fight for relationships when they become difficult. Not because they don't care — they do. It's more that difficulty without clear resolution triggers the same flat response as difficulty in any other domain.
The scene: there's a tension between them and someone they love. Not a crisis — a persistent low-grade misalignment that keeps recurring. They addressed it once; they thought it was resolved. It wasn't. The second round of addressing it requires more energy than the first, and something in them isn't certain that energy is available. They're still there. They're just slightly less present, slightly more in their head, running the calculation on whether this is the kind of difficulty that resolves or the kind that simply continues.
You've started more than you've finished, and you've made peace with most of it. The ones you haven't made peace with are worth paying attention to.
