— The —DORMANT STRATEGIST

You're built for difficult problems. What you're still figuring out is how to tolerate the easy stretches in between.

Capricorn · Dec 22 — Jan 19Wood Dragon
I.Overview

Capricorn builds slowly and deliberately. Wood refuses to build anything beneath its own standards. Dragon is a specialist — the one who gets called in when other people have given up. This combination produces someone whose capabilities are real but unevenly activated. When the problem is hard enough, they're extraordinary. When it isn't, they drift — not dramatically, just incrementally, into a low-grade flatness where they're technically functional but not really present. Their output comes in phases that would alarm anyone watching from outside: intense, focused, brilliant for six months, then slow and slightly absent for three. They've stopped explaining this to people. The explanation never quite landed.

II.Personality

The Capricorn-Wood core gives this person a moral architecture rare in someone so genuinely capable. They're not just competent; they care that their competence is directed at something that deserves it. They'll take the harder project over the easier one if the harder one matters more. The caliber of the problem is part of the motivation.

Dragon adds the specialist signature. This is the person who picks up what others have already failed at and finds the angle nobody tried. Not cleverness exactly — it's a willingness to ignore conventional wisdom and look at the actual structure of the problem. They've been right doing this in ways that surprised people who thought they knew the field.

There's an understated quality to all of it. They don't perform what they know. They wait.

Now the part you don't post about.

Dragon alternates between high-intensity engagement and genuine disengagement. After a productive phase, the system powers down. The project slows. Emails wait. They know they're capable of better than what they're currently producing, and the knowing makes it worse.

Wood's shadow is the slow calcification of disappointment — when the world keeps failing the standard they'd set for it, something becomes quietly pessimistic. Dragon already runs pessimistic underneath its controlled surface. The combination can become a private certainty that things won't work out, maintained alongside a public front of measured confidence.

The fear they carry: not falling short, but looking up and realizing they've stopped reaching. That somewhere between one revision and the next, stagnation became the plan, and they didn't notice until it had already been the plan for two years.

III.Love

They're slow to warm up. Dragon is cool by default; Capricorn doesn't declare until the calculation is done; Wood is watching. They observe someone for a long time before deciding, and the deciding is quiet. A partner might not be certain they're in until they suddenly, obviously, are.

When they commit, it's for the long arc. Capricorn provides the patience; Wood provides the loyalty that comes from genuine belief in the person. They love by understanding the shape of someone's life and fitting themselves into it without being asked.

What breaks it is feeling held below their potential — not by the partner's demands, but by the relationship's ceiling. When a partnership stops being interesting, they don't leave loudly. They go quiet. The quality of their presence changes in a way the partner feels before they name it.

The scene: they're in the middle of something — a project, a conversation, an evening — and they stop. Not dramatically. Just a half-second pause where the other person can see them recalibrate. It happens when the thing in front of them doesn't match what they'd imagined it would be. They return to the conversation. They're present. But whatever recalibration happened in that pause is private, and complete.

You've spent years getting good at knowing what something is worth. The thing you haven't yet decided is whether you're applying that skill to yourself.
