The existential fear is stagnation — Wood's, always. But the Dog keeps showing up for the same people in the same ways, and one day you'll notice the contradiction between those two facts.
You love with full commitment and no strategic reserve. Dog loyalty is absolute, not contingent; once you've chosen someone, the choosing doesn't have a clause. "How did you even remember that?" You shrug. The doing was the point, not the credit. Somewhere in the gap between what you arranged and how long ago they mentioned it is the whole portrait of how you love.
Your loyalty has never been the problem. Figuring out when you're allowed to be loyal to yourself — that's the thing you keep deferring.
