Dragon restlessness — alternating between intense work and total withdrawal, dreaming bigger than executing, excelling at fixing what others couldn't — filtered through Aquarius's systems lens and Water's opacity creates someone who is genuinely hard to place. They do things no one else can, in periods of focused intensity that come on and then recede without explanation. Between those periods, they're harder to reach. This isn't dysfunction. It's rhythm.
The Dragon's pride and refusal to try to please people gets amplified by Aquarius's indifference to approval and Water's strategic opacity. The combination is not cold exactly — there's genuine depth here, genuine interest in the world. But the interest is highly specific, and everything outside those specific interests gets very little of their energy.
In a group, they're the one people have trouble describing. Brilliant at something. Not quite present otherwise. Interesting to know. Somewhat impossible to fully know.
Aquarius gives them the framework to understand why certain things matter and others don't. Their intellectual independence isn't posturing — they've actually thought through why the conventional approach is wrong and have a better one. Whether they'll implement it is a different question.

The Dragon gives them the specific genius. Whatever their domain is — the thing they've claimed, the problem they decided to care about — they're genuinely formidable there. They see angles others miss. They can pick up a failed version of the thing and revive it, because they saw what others got wrong. The Dragon picks up failed businesses, stalled projects, tangled situations and makes them work. Outside their lane, they can be surprisingly unremarkable and they're fine with this.

The Dragon's short-range vision — daydreaming more than executing, picking up failed things rather than building from scratch — creates a particular friction with Aquarius's systematic frame and Water's long-game patience. They can plan brilliantly and then not quite follow through, and then analyze why the plan was actually flawed in a way that makes the not-following-through seem like wisdom rather than avoidance.
The Dragon is pessimistic and introverted underneath any showy surface — this version doesn't have the showy surface. What's left is the pessimism and the introversion, running clean. When things aren't interesting, they go flat in a way Water describes as disappearing emotionally. It happens without announcement.
What Water fears: being fully seen. For the Dragon specifically, being fully seen means someone piercing through the "brilliant specialist" identity to the rhythms underneath — the cycles of intensity and withdrawal, the actual ratio of dreaming to doing, the ways the confidence is real and the ways it's maintained by avoiding domains where it might be tested.
They're drawn to people who have their own thing — their own domain, their own intensity, something they're genuinely committed to. The Dragon won't chase someone who needs to be impressed; they're not interested in performing for that purpose, and they don't respect effort spent there.
They love with unusual steadiness once committed, despite the surface patterns. The Dragon tends to commit to people who've been through real things, and once they've decided, they don't leave. Water reinforces this with perception: they chose carefully, they understood what they were choosing, and they honor the choice.
What breaks them: the relationship becoming a demand for consistent presence rather than periodic deep presence. The Dragon's rhythm isn't going to become something else. If the other person needs steady, daily, calibrated attention, the Dragon will try for a while and then withdraw in a way that both of them find confusing.
The scene: they're in a period of intensity — completely in it, working on the thing, genuinely unavailable. Their person sends a message. They read it, note it needs response, continue working. Three hours later they remember. The response is warm and real. But there's a window that's been open and closed several times that the other person experienced very differently than they did.
